Longtime Resident Appointed Municipal Judge

Prosecutor Kenneth Strait Jr. begins three-year appointment next month.

Montclair's Municipal Court has a new judge.

The Montclair Council has given the honors to longtime township resident and former Municipal Court Prosecutor Kenneth Strait Jr.

Strait's three-year appointment begins on Sept. 21. He takes the place of Judge Richard Insley.

"We are very pleased by your appointment," Montclair Mayor Robert Jackson told Strait, adding he was impressed by "how overwhelmingly you were advocated for by our public safety staff."

Strait served as the municipal court prosecutor for five years and has also served as a public defender for the township.

He has lived in Montclair since 1981 and raised two children in town. His law practice is located on Part Street in the township.

Joseph Angelo has been appointed acting municipal court prosecutor until a permanent prosecutor is hired.
