As forecasts predict Tropical Storm Sandy will hit Montclair early next week, local officials said they were monitoring the storm closely and making preparations on Friday. 

Montclair Woman Struck by Car on Bloomfield Avenue While Crossing Street

A 64-year-old Montclair woman received a head injury and was taken to University Hospital after she was struck by a car while crossing Bloomfield Avenue.

Preliminary reports show that the woman, who was not identified by name, was jaywalking across the avenue near Cuban Pete's Restaurant around 8:45 p.m. Police said a four-door Lexus SUV travelling in the westbound lane hit her and she was bleeding from the head when an ambulance arrived.

The township council's proposal to allow the developer of the Montclair Center Gateway Project to move its mandated affordable housing units elsewhere in town met with resistance from the Montclair Housing Commission on Monday.

Housing Commission voiced its disapproval at the start of the week of the council’s ordinance to allow the developer of the six-story CentroVerde project to place its required affordable housing units in another part of town.

The case against a West Orange teacher from Montclair charged with a having sexual relationship with one of her students has been referred to a grand jury, according to the Essex County’s Prosecutor’s Office. 

Erica DePalo, 33, pleaded not guilty in September to charges that she had a sex with a 15-year-old student who attended her honors English class at West Orange High School. 

Newark Man Arrested for Montclair Burglary

A 23-year-old Newark man has been arrested and charged with one count of burglary, though Montclair police said he is a suspect in additional burglaries.

The Montclair Art Museum recently was awarded a grant that will fund one of its most popular programs. 

The art museum was awarded a $15,000 grant from the Horizon Foundation for New Jersey, a subsidiary of the health insurance provider Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield.

The ribbon was cut recently on renovations to the middle school dining hall at Montclair Kimberley Academy by trustees, former alumni and friends. 

Halloween Parade Showcases Essex County's Dogs

Last weekend, pet owners showcased their pets and their creativity at two parades sponsored by Essex County. The annual "Strut Your Mutt" Halloween contest took place at Brookdale Park in Montclair/Bloomfield and at the South Mountain Dog Park in Maplewood/Millburn.
