WATCH: Kerry Washington Endorses Buono for NJ Governor

The leading lady of "Django Unchained" and ABC's "Scandal" is a childhood friend of Buono's running mate.

New Jersey Senator Barbara Buono snagged an endorsement from actress Kerry Washington Sunday at a rally at Montclair State in her bid to become the next governor of The Garden State.

Washington, speaking before an energetic crowd of students and union members, hammered Christie on education and minimum wage, labeling Buono as a change candidate for New Jersey, according to northjersey.com.

For those who think the endorsement from the Bronx-born actress comes out of left field: Washington is the cousin of Buono’s running mate, Milly Silva, according to northjersey.com.

Meanwhile, Buono, locked in an uphill battle with incumbent Governor Chris Christie, continues to be consistently walloped in the polls.

Christie’s reelection juggernaut has also eclipsed Buono’s fundraising efforts.

The governor raised $4.22 million—the max eligible for $2-to-$1 public matching—while Buono has filed for only about $380,000 worth of contributions, according to The Associated Press.

Election Day is Nov. 5.
