The thunder woke me up at around 4 a.m. and I immediately thought of my plan to take my 4-mile run at 5:45. Ugh.
Do I like running in the rain? No. Do I like getting up at 5:45 a.m. to go running in the rain? No. The only thing worse is NOT going, and not getting the energy rush I depend on to get me through my busy day working at the Patch headquarters in NYC.
So run I did. And I'm glad! First of all, because I get to feel the warm (and slightly smug) glow of accomplishment. But also because I hate when my schedule gets thrown off. Other working moms will know what I'm talking about.

To my surprise, however, the run was lovely. I heard some birds, I smelled some flowers, I admired some freshly planted gardens, and I got some time to myself. Plus, by the time I got on the train, I had crossed at least one thing off my to-do list.
Next time I heard thunder at 4 a.m. I'll try to remember that a run in the rain isn't the worst thing in the world.
