A petition created under the name "Support Montclair's Schools" has popped up on Change.org in reaction to increasing tensions between the Montclair Board of Education and some parents, students and educators.

The petition reads in part:

We call for civility, respect and patience as we move forward implementing the strategic plan to improve our schools. Let's give this a chance. This isn't the end of the process, but the beginning. (Read complete petition.)

The petition specifically asks signers to support the Montclair Board of Education, Superintendent Penny MacCormack and the district administration's efforts, and says both the district's Central Office and the community wants the same results, including closing the achievement gap, raising the bar for all students and providing teacher with the support they need.

As of 1 p.m. Monday afternoon there were 34 supporters of the petition.
