Golf Outing to Support Montclair Football Program

You don't even have to be a golfer to participate.

Plans are underway for the annual golf outing and dinner to benefit the Montclair High School football program. The event, organized by alumni and sponsored by the Montclair Fund for Educational Excellence, will be held June 25 at the Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield.

The event chairperson, Ray Carnevale, a member of the Class of 1965, said that last year’s golf outing raised $31,000 and served as a mini-reunion for Montclair High School alumni.

“We had 114 golfers and 180 people for dinner,” Carnevale said. “It was a day of laughs, storytelling and ‘great to see you!’”

Carnevale continued, “this is one outing at which you do not have to be a golfer.  It is an outing just to have fun and reminisce” and, of course, support the football program.

“This outing is essential for the football program because it provides programs for our student athletes, which would otherwise not be possible due to state budget cuts,” said head coach John Fiore. “We use it for everything from equipment to SAT/ACT prep courses to summer tournaments to bringing athletes to colleges in the Northeast for one-day camps to see what it’s like to possibly play at the Division 1 level.”

The Montclair football team, which made it to the state championships at MetLife Stadium in both of the last two seasons, is preparing for another strong season with a talented group of players.

Event registration is $195 per golfer; registration fee includes 18 holes of golf, a golf cart, lunch and dinner, locker room facilities and a $15 pro shop credit. The price for dinner only is $45.

Tee time is 12 p.m., and the day concludes with a dinner and an open bar, awards, and raffle prizes.

Among the prizes is the chance to win a car for a designated hole-in-one. Raffle items include iPads valued at $599.

All attendees are also invited to attend a kick-off reception the night before the event at the Furlong Field House at 7 p.m. on June 24.

At last year’s outing, classes from 1957 to 2009 were represented. The Class of 1977 had the most people attending, with the Class of 1965 coming in a close second.
