Superintendent Dr. Frank Alvarez announced Tuesday that Kathy Lindsay would serve as interim principal at the while the current principal, Dr. Barbara Weller, transitions to her new duties at the district's Central Office.
Lindsay’s start date is officially February 1, 2012, although she will be in the school during the month of January to meet with students, staff, and parents.
According to Alvarez, Lindsay is well known within the community, having served Montclair as a teacher, program coordinator, and principal.
"She is extremely knowledgeable in elementary curriculum and has an exceptionally strong background in early childhood education," he said.
After nearly three decades in Montclair education, Lindsay retired at the end of the 2010 school year as principal of Northeast Elementary School.
Late last month, Alvarez announced that Weller had been named Assistant Superintendent of Instruction effective Feb. 1, 2012.
Weller was principal during the transition of students from the former Rand Elementary School to the new Charles H. Bullock Elementary School that opened in fall 2010.
