Mayor Appoints Mernin to Montclair School Board

Jackson calls appointee "among the most respected residents of our community."

Montclair Mayor Robert Jackson announced the appointment of Anne Mernin to the Montclair School Board Friday.

Mernin will complete the unexpired term of Tanya Coke, who resigned earlier this month from the board.

"I have known Anne since our days at Northeast School and believe she is among the most respected residents of our community," Jackson said in a letter to the school district announcing the appointment.

Mernin serves as Director of Outreach for St. Luke's Episcopal Church, overseeing Toni's Kitchen and the Second Time Around Shop.

She is a past PTA president, PTA council member, Montclair Public Library Trustee and Girl Scout Troop Leader.

Her professional experience includes serving as a Vice President at both Societe Generale and Citicorp Investment Bank, as well as a Management Consultant, at Coopers & Lybrand (PricewaterhouseCoopers).

"I anticipate that Anne's extensive management experience will be quite helpful to the board," Jackson said.

She holds degrees from New York University and the University of Virginia, as well as a New Jersey Teacher's Certification from Bloomfield College.

Mernin and her husband, Michael, have two children in Montclair Public Schools and one child who graduated from Montclair High School.

"More than anything I am appointing Anne because she is a leader and these unsettled days in our public schools demand strong dispassionate leadership," Jackson said.
