Bio for Dr. Monroe Helfgott- Inclusion Facilitator

Dr. Monroe Helfgott has been hired, effective July 1, 2012, for the newly created position of Inclusion Facilitator for Montclair Public Schools.  Dr. Helfgott spent the majority of his career as a special education teacher and school psychologist for the Westchester BOCES programs.  During the past seven years, Dr. Helfgott has been working for Bloomfield School District’s Department of Special Services as Learning Disabilities Teacher-Consultant and District Inclusion Facilitator to transition Out-of-District students back to their home district.

While in Bloomfield, Dr. Helfgott also coordinated the Montclair State University Network for Educational Renewal-Bloomfield Partnership.  An important outcome of the partnership has been the development of several Dodge Research Grants and Teacher Planning-Training Grants focusing on the areas of:  Inclusion Models; Deconstruction Anti-Inclusion Attitudes; The Co-Teacher Model; Executive Functioning Skills; and Virtual Enrichment Programs.  Dr. Helfgott holds a Doctorate of Education from Teachers College, Columbia University.  He is currently writing a book that focuses on the development of specific strategies and support systems to foster the inclusion of Out-of-District students within their home district classrooms.
