Memorial Service Honors Montclair Philanthropist

John J. Cali helped establish the John J. Cali School of Music at Montclair State University.

A memorial service celebrating the life and legacy of Montclair resident John J. Cali will be held on Tuesday, May 6, at 4 p.m. at Montclair State University's Alexander Kasser Theater.

Cali, an entrepreneur, real estate developer and philanthropist, died on February 1, 2014, in California with his wife Rose, by his side. In 2008, Cali and his family made a generous gift to Montclair State University which established the John J. Cali School of Music. An accomplished civic leader, Cali received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 1996 and was awarded an honorary degree by Montclair State in 2009.

The service will include performances by students from the university's school of music bearing his name. The public is invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family of John J. Cali asks that you please consider making  a gift to the endowment of the John J. Cali Distinguished Artists-in-Residence Fund.  This fund assists Montclair State in providing students enrolled in the John J. Cali School of Music with the opportunity to study with and learn from an impressive roster of distinguished singers, accomplished musicians and noted stage  performers.

If you wish to make such a gift in honor of Cali, please send to the Montclair State University Foundation, attention of David Graham, Room CO300, 1 Normal  Avenue, Montclair, NJ 07043. For more information, contact Graham at grahamda@mail.montclair.edu or call 973-655-4334.
