MHS Awards Night Recognizes Student Talent and Scholarship

The Montclair 2014 Awards Night was held last night to honor students.

It was a beautiful night Thursday as hundreds of Montclair High School students gathered with family, faculty and staff to receive recognition for their years of hard work.

Nearly 200 awards and scholarships were given to both upper and underclassmen for their dedication and service.

Many of the awards were given by the athletics, foreign language and math departments, the Montclair Scholarship Fund, the School of Visual and Performing Arts, the Center for Social Justice and the Civics and Government Institute.

More than 400 community service awards were presented to students for their service to the school and town. Awards ranged from one year of service to four years of service.

There were 12 Owl Pins awarded to seniors who among other characteristics, demonstrate “enthusiastic cooperation in various school activities, and an intelligent awareness of the duties, responsibilities, and privileges of good citizenship.”

Senior Audrey Hertzberg was awarded the MHS Award for her demonstration of “ambition, dedication and trustworthiness,” as well as service to the Senior Citizens’ Dinner, HomeCorp, Toni’s Soup Kitchen and the NJ Food Bank.
