Montclair Achievement Gap Widens

District reports on results of standardized tests.

Montclair's black students from low-income families are falling significantly behind their white classmates, according to a report in The Montclair Times.

Details about the widening achievement gap were presented to the Montclair Board of Education Monday night by Gail Clarke, the district's assistant schools superintendent for instruction, the report said.

Clarke reported on results of two standardized tests, the NJ ASK test given to elementary school students and the High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA) taken by high school juniors, both of which showed white students performing at a higher proficiency level than black students.
