Montclair's Drums of Thunder to Perform on Super Bowl Boulevard

Hillside percussionists selected to perform in NFL championship celebration.

Drums of Thunder, the renowned percussion program from Hillside Elementary School in Montclair, has been invited to perform at the Super Bowl Boulevard concert stage in New York City on Thursday, at 7:30 p.m.

The percussion program under the direction of Louis D’Amico is an elite group of fourth and fifth grade musicians who practice daily at the school.

Drums of Thunder has traveled throughout the East Coast to perform at such prestigious venues, including live appearances on NBC’s The Today Show and LXTV, engagements at professional NFL, NBA, the U.S. Open Tennis events, as well as at college sporting events including the Atlantic 10 Women’s Championships.

They also regularly perform at opening ceremonies like Citipond in New York City and honorary events such the Pac-12 Award Ceremony at Gotham Hall in 2012. Drums of Thunder has also opened for headline acts such as Bill Cosby and Earth Wind and Fire.

“Like all their public appearances, this will stand as a reward for their hard earned efforts and provide them with great positive feedback,” D’Amico said.

“Hillside is the Gifted and Talented magnet elementary school in Montclair,” Principal Mike Chiles said, “and Drums of Thunder is a great program for kids to showcase their talents and build their character.”
