Bloomfield Passes Up Montclair Principal

Breaking news from Bloomfield BOE meeting: Earle didn't get the superintendent job.

Story updated Oct. 17 at 8 a.m.

There will be no immediate need for a high school principal search in Montclair.

The Board of Education in Bloomfield appointed the district's middle school principal to the role of superintendent Wednesday, rather than going with MHS Principal James Earle, the other finalist in the search.

Bloomfield Middle School Principal Salvatore Goncalves, a district employee for 35 years, was appointed at a special meeting with a 7-3 vote, the Bloomfield Patch reported.

Asked what drew him to the district, Earle said he liked Bloomfield’s demographics.

“I look at Bloomfield and I say 'yes,' I can do this. It feels like a place I can work and support students.”

Earle came to Montclair in 2009 from Trenton Central High School, where he served as principal.
