Students Wear Pink to Show They Care

Immaculate Conception High School students added a bit of pink to their school uniforms on Monday to show support for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

By wearing something pink, students raised awareness of breast cancer and honored those who had lost their lives to the disease. 

In the halls this week, freshman Alexandra English could be seen wearing a pink flower in her hair and Timothy Black, a senior, was wearing pink shoelaces around his neck. He said he will also wear those shoe laces at the school’s homecoming game on Saturday.

And the school will continue to observe of Breast Cancer Awareness Month at the annual homecoming game by celebrating the life of one of their own alumni, Molaika Motley. Motley, class of 1998, succumbed to breast cancer in January 2012.

At the homecoming game, Saturday at 1 p.m. at Codey Field, the Immaculate Conception class of 1998 will announce a newly created scholarship in Motley's name. This scholarship will provide financial assistance to a student that attends Immaculate Conception High School.  

The Immaculate Conception Lions will play Hudson Catholic on Saturday. Football players will wear pink shoelaces and the cheerleaders will have pink pom-poms in honor of all victims of breast cancer, but especially to honor Motley.  

There will also be a moment of silence at the game to pay respect to Motley.
