Montclair Restaurants Come ... and Go

Mac Attack, Simply Asia and Mundo Vegan coming soon.

Three new restaurants are getting set to open in Montclair, and one has recently closed. Here are some morsels of local food news:

Give Cheese a Chance!

Mac Attack's employee t-shirts say it all: "Sweet Dreams Are Made of Cheese." The shirts, along with the menu and a sneak peek of the interior, are all posted on the Facebook page of this soon-to-open, cheese-lovers paradise at 104 Walnut St., near the train station and next to The Montclair Pop-Up. Cheddar, Manchego, American and other varieties are the stars of the menu, which is split into sections for macaroni and cheese, grilled cheese, cheesy bites, sweet cheese ... you get the idea. Follow on Twitter @thtswhtchzsd.

Taste of Asia

Sushi Hana Japanese Restaurant operated from 5 North Fullerton Ave. in Montclair Center for what felt like forever. Now the windows are papered and signs on the storefront indicate it will reopen soon as Simply Asian. The new establishment will offer dishes from Malaysia, Thailand, Japan and China. Remember when Montclair had a place called Taste of Asia?

It's a Vegan World, After All

While The Stockpot on Church Street will surely be missed, vegans will be delighted to hear that an all-vegan restaurant with a Spanish influence will soon be opening up at 20 Church Street. The mission of Mundo Vegan co-owners Fanny Fuentes-Phalon and Tracey Phalon? "We believe that by providing quality organic, non-GMO, Palm Oil Free foods, we can help sustain a low carbon footprint without ever compromising flavor." Follow Mundo Vegan on Facebook.

Adios

Fans of the authentic Cuban food sold by the pound at Plato Cubano on Valley Road will be saddened to read that the place has closed. A "For Rent" sign is taped to the dark storefront where daily specials were once available for take-out. If the owners are reading this, please tell us what happened and if we could find your food elsewhere?
