Montclair State Student Sues Former College

Brittany Meyer claims the Bergen County Community College women's basketball team was not insured when she was injured.

A former Bergen County Community College student has filed a lawsuit against the school and the women's basketball team for not having insurance that has led to more than $100,000 in medical bills for an injury she suffered on the court.

Brittany Meyer, who transferred to Montclair State University last fall and hopes to join its team for the 2014-15 season, claims BCCC didn't have insurance for the women's basketball team when she suffered a torn ACL while playing a game in January 2013, according to NorthJersey.com.

Larry Hlavenka, a spokesman for the college, said the school is committed to paying for Meyer's medical bills and said the lapse in the team's insurance was due to a clerical error that was rectified once it was discovered, according to the report.
