Coach's Bright Idea Aims to Sharpen QB Skills

Local athlete and coach Andrew Rockoff is looking to get his quarterback training system a kick start toward mass production.

Football has become one of, if not, the most popular sports in the country. Each season, hundreds of teams from pee-wee to the NFL will practice their tails off in order sharpen their skills before the season starts. Many of these teams will place a huge amount of faith into the guy with the ball in his hands, their quarterback.

Quarterbacks need hundreds if not thousands of reps to get their vision, reaction time and release where it needs to be for game day. The problem is, you can’t ask the entire offense and defense to run a single play dozens of times to sharpen their quarterback’s skills.

The solution is Andrew Rockoff and his Light’em Up: The Ultimate Quarterback Trainer.

“It’s a quarterback trainer to help develop field vision, decision making skills, going through progressions and accuracy.”

Rockoff, a Montclair resident, is a graduate of Millburn High School and he returned to coach the varsity football team after attending college. One thing he noticed throughout his playing and coaching career was a need for a quarterback sharpening system.

“It’s basically like a flight simulator for a quarterback. It has a light system where red lights represent a receiver being covered and green lights represent a receiver being open.”

Light’em Up is currently posted on kickstarter.com, a website that helps entrepreneurs or inventors hook up with potential investors.

“Right now we are trying to get our final prototype built so we can start mass production,” said Rockoff. “This product could be used at the high school level across the country. It could be an exceptional tool that could revolutionize the game.”

The funding period on Light'em Up on Kickstarter.com ends on Sunday so check it out as soon as you can.
