Want Something To Do Tonight? Special Skaters Show at Codey Arena

Talented students and competitive skaters take to the ice on April 21.

 

The Essex Skating Club will host the on April 21 from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the in West Orange.

The event will present performances by Special Olympians from the Essex Special Skaters program, as well as the many volunteers who coach them.

"This is a great opportunity for our skaters to showcase their skills," said event organizer Heidi Vanderhoof, who is also an instructor. "Many of our skaters are very talented." 

Local students who volunteer with the program, some of whom are competitive freeskaters, will also take to the ice.

Newark Academy student Cynthia Yang, a competitive junior ladies skater as well as a volunteer instructor, will perform. Others participants include Andrew Naylor, an Olympian in pairs skating from Great Britain, and professional show skater Rachel Gomez.

Admission is free; donations will be accepted to benefit the Special Skaters Fund.

"This is a terrific night of free, family entertainment and a chance to support our skaters," said Vanderhoof. "It is a great cause."
