May is Melanoma/Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month and board certified dermatologist Dr. Jeanine Downie of Montclair will visit the American Red Cross to perform her annual free skin cancer screenings.
Downie has urged community members to become more aware of changes in skin lesions and asks that community members schedule an appointment for a screening on Thursday, May 15, between 7 and 9 p.m.at the Red Cross office located at 63 Park St. in Montclair.
The skin cancer screening will consist of a close visual inspection of the body skin by a dermatologist. Screenings typically start at the face and hairline, moving to the rest of the body down to the bottoms of the feet. The process takes only a few minutes and is painless, acccording to a release Tuesday.
Appointments are required and may be made by calling 973.746.1800. Screening gowns were donated by Keil’s of Montclair.
