Montclair Teen Goes on Tour to Benefit Bone Marrow Charity

Alex Scheitinger is first student from School of Rock Montclair to make the School of Rock's All-Stars band.

Montclair teen Alex Scheitinger is a rock star in more ways than one. The 16-year-old bass player was chosen to represent the School of Rock Montclair as a member of the School of Rock All-Stars this summer.

Along with young musicians from around the country, Alex did a mini-tour of the East Coast in support of Love Hope Strength, an international music-centric cancer charity.

Stops included The Gramercy Theater in Manhattan; Union Transfer in Philadelphia; and three concerts at the Gathering of the Vibes festival in Bridgeport, Conn.

The concerts helped to drive awareness for the Love Hope Strength’s GET ON THE LIST campaign, which encourages people to sign up to be marrow donors with DKMS (Delete Blood Cancer) America.

“The experience was one I’ll never forget,” said Alex. “It felt amazing to play with awesome musicians who became close friends and really cared about putting on good shows at cool venues to help an important cause.”

Alex is the first School of Rock Montclair student to make the All-Stars band, said Matt Sandoski, owner of School of Rock Montclair.

“He was one of hundreds of young musicians to audition for the opportunity, and we’re thrilled that he made the team — or in this case, the band," Sandoski said.
