Master Plan Talks Focus on Upper Montclair, Historic Preservation

What's happening this week in Montclair and what stories Patch plans to cover.

The Montclair Council meets at a special date and time this week due to Tuesday's primary election. The council will convene Monday at 5 p.m. in the first floor Council Chambers in the Municipal Building, 205 Claremont Ave.

After the council meeting, the Montclair Planning Board will take their seats at the dais to continue open discussions on the 30-year Master Plan to guide growth in the township. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. and will focus on Upper Montclair and Historic Preservation. 

Tuesday is the primary election to decide the Democratic and Republican candidates to fill the U.S. Senate seat which became open following the death of Frank Lautenberg. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Newark Mayor Cory Booker is the front-runner in the latest polls, making him the target of fellow candidates in the final Democratic Debate.

A free screening of the film "Sacred Planet" will be held at the Montclair Public Library Thursday, at 6:30 p.m. 

The Hilltop Reservation Conservancy will hold a Grasshopper Kids Mountain Bike Race on Saturday. All bike racers, grades k through 8, are welcome to ride and race for prizes on a specially prepared 0.6 mile course. 

Also on Saturday, a memorial will be held for the late Patrick Dearborn, longtime artistic director of Montclair High School's School of Visual and Performing Arts. There will be speeches and special performances at 1 p.m. at the Charles H. Bullock School, 55 Washington St. in Montclair.
