5 Ways to Help the Human Needs Food Pantry

Numerous events this weekend will help hungry members of community.

Demand at Human Needs Food Pantry is on the rise, and the need for donations is particularly high during the holidays.

"We really need your help to make this a successful holiday for those who need us," says a message on the Human Needs Facebook page. "We will be distributing all of our Thanksgiving food to our clients on Monday and Tuesday and will then be closed until the following week."

Thankfully, there is no lack of ways to help. Numerous local businesses and organizations have events planned this weekend to help feed hungry members of the community.

Here are 5 ways you can help:

1. The pantry, located at 9 Label St., is accepting frozen turkeys or turkey breasts on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

2. The Montclair Boutique Crawl set for Saturday, Nov. 23, gives shoppers who RSVP to organizer Montclair Mommies 24/7 a special incentive to shop and eat locally all day long. Diapers and canned food will be collected for the Human Needs Pantry.

3. Piazza Della Sole, 620 Valley Road, is "Getting Personal" by collecting new socks and underwear for men, women and children for the Human Needs Food Pantry of Montclair.

4. Montclair Bikery, 145 Valley Road, is organizing a first annual Turkey Ride on Sunday, Nov. 24. Cyclists will meet at the bike shop, ride over to Brookdale Shop Rite in Bloomfield to buy turkeys and deliver them to the Human Needs Food Pantry at 9 Label St

5. Tierney's Tavern, 136 Valley Road, will host Comedy Catalyst — a comedy show to benefit the pantry — on Saturday, Nov. 23. Bring donations of nonperishable foods, or gently used clothes, towels or linens and be entered in a raffle. Event is 21 and over.
