Ted Yoder to Play Father’s Day Concert

On Sunday June 15, folk rock artist Ted Yoder will be rocking the stage at the Montclair Community Church for a special Father's Day concert.

Ted Yoder has been an active instrumentalist for the majority of his life, but began focusing on the hammered dulcimer in 2008. A few years later, Yoder was named the 2010 National Hammered Dulcimer Champion.

Yoder is very experienced in “getting contemporary on a traditional instrument”. He enjoys playing familiar songs that people recognize, “but with a sound they've never experienced.”

This unfamiliar and interesting sound causes people to “stop and take notice.”

The hammered dulcimer is a stringed musical instrument, with strings of varying length stretched over a trapezoidal shaped box. Handheld hammers are used to play the instrument.

As a singer songwriter, Yoder will be performing original compositions on Sunday, in addition to traditional pieces and popular selections from artists like The Beatles. Yoder will also play a few songs geared towards dads like Dan Fogelberg’s  “Leader of the Band,” in celebration of Father’s Day.

“I am very excited to come to New Jersey,” said Yoder. “It’s my first time coming to the state and I hope to make it a splash so that I get invited back!”

Beginning at 7:30 p.m., the concert is expected to last hour and a half. It will be held on Sunday June 15, at the Montclair Community Church located at 143 Watchung Ave, Montclair, NJ 07043.
