My husband and I have been to Trumpets many, many times, and we love everything about it! Whatever we eat there is good. The music is always wonderful. The staff is very friendly and always tries to please. This is a real jazz club, not a restaurant with background music. There is a stage and you can see and hear well from anywhere in the room. The owners are warm, friendly and accommodating. I recommend it to all of my friends and continue to come back.

I have been to Trumpets Jazz Club many times since 2004. I always had a good meal and enjoyed the music. It draws a nice music-loving crowd. Reading the prior reviews about service- it has always been courteous but sometimes it was lacking (asking for refills, clearing plates, bringing the check) which can easily resolved with one or two extra pople on the floor. You can see them working hard. I have also met the owner a few times and it is evident to me that she runs this place for the shear love of music and music lovers. Looking at the way the clientele and musicians are treated, some of those accusatory comments are a complete falsehood. I would highly recommend the place for a night out and a place to make new friends.

I am a recurring Trumpets customer for good reason; the food is always delicious, the shows feature artists who are hard to find anywhere else in the area and the service is attentive and friendly. I have seen artists there from all over the world, like Alessandra Belloni & Eduardo Tami. They love jazz in all its forms and regularly feature world music. It's a great local spot for a evening out.

Over the years, my friends and family have enjoyed the sweet sounds of music at various venues. I must agree with Gabriel O., by far the service at this venue is seriously lacking!! Every time I have been there, there has continuously been poor to bad service. Experienced the same with plates being left on the table until we left… ughhh! Hire more people if you’re always down one.
Also, there is extremely unorganized and dysfunctional managerial service!! I find Kristine Massari to be not only rude but, she also makes uneducated and wild accusations to the patrons of her establishment without using any discretion what-so-ever or conferring with her own staff! I witnessed her stop a patron, prior to exiting, and shout out the woman’s name and say “YOU DIDN’T PAY FOR YOUR SEAT”. I was floored and embarrassed for this lady. The woman politely explained that she had done so and had even increased her party count; I even saw that this woman purchased several c.d.’s. It seemed like she was spending money and bringing business to Trumpets Jazz Club and was practically accused of theft for her support.

I love this place. I have been to Trumpets many times since 2004, maybe twice/three times a year. I live in Montclair and have to say I am very proud of having in my town a place where you can listen to the best jazz and eat very delicious food. My friend Raymond who is Dutch and a Jazz lover agrees too. Last time he was visiting from Amsterdam we got lucky and were able to see Claudio Roditi live. Not only the music was delightful but also the steaks and pasta we ate. We had the best time, we were greeted by a really nice man, waiters kept an eye on our table constantly without overwhelming us or not letting us enjoy the show. At the end the owner even sat down with us and offered us cordials. I had some Sambuca which cost was not reflected on the bill.... so thank you very much. Funny enough we had been to the prestigious Blue Note in NYC a year before that and we did not enjoy the music as much, the stage was super far away from table but also the shrimp we ordered had a chemical taste and the total cost was too high. In Trumpets I have always felt as family, very well entertained and I always leave the place feeling so enriched by the experience for a very decent price. In these difficult times is something to consider. Thanks Trumpets.

I read a review in PATCH where a Gentleman and his Wife had some feelings about being discriminated against at Trumpets Jazz Club. That night apparently there was slow service and no people of Color in the club.
I was surprised , "Trumpets" is a legendary Jazz Club and really is a Great place for Performers as well as audiences of any Race. Any club can have nights that might not go well in the area of service and perhaps that is what happened.
That said, I must speak up on behalf of the owners and the club. I am African American, have been here for 11 years and my Husband and I do spend time at Trumpets. We are Performers and we are part of their Audience. In all those years, I have never seen, heard or experienced any Racism in The Club or by any one of the staff. The owners, Enrico and Kristine are Gracious and do their best to provide polite and timely service.
To the Couple, I hope you will give Trumpets another chance perhaps have a conversation with the Owners who I know they will hear you out. You will see who they are as people and as Club Owners. I am really sorry you felt it was racism and I encourage all of us to open a dialogue when we feel discriminated against. I am glad you had a way to let others know how you felt.
Sometimes what looks like discrimination in a night club or a restaurant is simply because there are not enough servers in the club. The food is five star , and hopefully on most nights the service is also.
Sincerely, Jeree Wade

Thank you for the compliments on our food and music at Trumpets. Sounds like you may have been here when we were down a server, Gabriel O. I don't like waiting for service, either. Our new floor manager guarantees good service at Trumpets. Hope you'll come back again as our guest for dinner and a show and try it out. Just write to us at trumpets@verizon.net to organize an evening for you and your wife as guests of Trumpets.
Also, we are multi-lingual and embrace cultural diversity. Yo soy profesora de italiano y espanol y mi esposo habla 8 idiomas y nacio` en Italia... In fact, we often feature musicians from Italy, France, Hungary, Czech Republic, Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Australia...and have celebrated the music and cultures of Mexico, Spain, Italy, Brazil and Ireland as part of our cultural series.
We'll be featuring a tasting for our new summer menu in about a week.

Worst customer service, maybe even borderline racist. I took my wife for a nice night out hoping to show her a good time. I had made reservations at Trumpets and we get there pay the $15 cover charge for each to then find out our table had been given to another group. We were sat down at another table where our initial drink and meal orders were taken then the wait staff seemed to turn a blind eye to us until the food came out. I had to ask 2 different people to see if they could bring bread to the table. It took at least 20 minutes for us to get it. In the 3 hours we spent there, we were never asked for refills for, our plates stayed on the small table we were sitting at for at least an hour after we finished eating and had to ask someone to come get them. I don't want to say that they were racist since it was our first time there, but when we are sitting in the middle of 3 tables along one side and the tables to either side are constantly asked if they are ok leaves a lot to wonder. Both my wife and I are Hispanic, none alcohol drinkers so I am not sure if they did not pay attention to us because we were not drinkers but when looking over the crowd gathered there, we were the only people of color. The music was great and the steaks we each had were pretty good. If it wasn't for the service I would actually go again and make it a little hang out spot for my wife and I.
