The Garden Club of Montclair resides in the United Way Building on South Fullerton Avenue, near Montclair'sMore Downtown shopping area. It was established in 1926 and incorporated in 1950. It belongs to the larger National Garden Clubs, Inc. The club consists of 173 members who partake in various projects that better the community and strengthen practices such as conservation and horticulture. It also assists in educational ventures that support the preservation of the community.

Founded in 2004, Garden State Equality continues to fight for civil rights for the lesbian, gay, bisexual,More transgender and intersex community. The group proudly draws attention to the fact that New Jersey has enacted 210 LGBT civil rights laws at the state, county and municipal level since its founding—more than any other state. Indeed, New Jersey ranks first in the country for leading the way in LGBT civil rights, tied only with California, Iowa and Vermont.

Garden State Equality has 66,000 "core" members, making it the largest advocacy organization in New Jersey. These core members are those who have either donated in the past 12 months or taken two actions for equality in the past six months.

The group is often honored for its achievements. For example, Garden State Equality was the subject of an article in the Harvard Law and Policy Review in 2008. The group has a legislative office in Trenton and other offices in Asbury Park and Collingswood. The Montclair office acts as the statewide headquarters.
