Montclair Art Museum will be open late between 5 and 9 p.m.
The Montclair Art Museum will offer free admission and be open late between 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday. Free First Thursday Nights at the museum, located at 3 S. Mountain Ave., will include access to current exhibits The New Spirit: American Art in the Armory Show 1913, and Oscar Bluemner's America: Picturing Paterson, New Jersey. Tours of Oscar Bluemner's America: Picturing Paterson, NJ will be offered every hour on the half hour — 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. There will be a full-service bar with special prices at the event provided by Egan & Sons Restaurant and Bar. In the latest installment of "A Minute at the Montclair Art Museum," Chief Curator Gail Stavitsky takes a look at Oscar Bluemner's "Jersey Silkmills," a work from the Vera Bluemner Kouba Collection, Stetson University, in DeLand, Fld. The painting is one of many in the museum's current exhibit Oscar Bluemner's America: Picturing Paterson, New Jersey. The exhibit will be on display through June 16.

In the latest installment of "A Minute at the Montclair Art Museum," art educator Peg Kenselaar takes a look at Richard Anuskiewicz's "Orange-Edged Light Green Square." The painting is part of the museum's current exhibit Patterns, Systems, Structures: Abstraction in American Art. The exhibit will run through the summer.

The Montclair Art Museum will hold its Free First Thursday Nights event from 6 to 9 p.m. at the museum, located at 3 S. Mountain Ave. In addition, it will also be Slide Night. Starting at 7 p.m., drop by the museum's Leir Hall for an informal gathering hosted by Studio Montclair Inc., a nonprofit organization of exhibiting professional artists. The Montclair Art Museum is opening its doors to young artists for its Young Curator Program.
The success of any art exhibition depends on the keen eye of a curator. So the Montclair Art Museum is opening its doors to the next generation of young artists and curators for an all-access look at the process. The Young Curator Program at the local museum is currently looking for teenage students in Montclair and the surrounding area who are interested in a behind the scenes look at the art world. The program will take students through various museums and artist's studios to better understand the ins and outs of creating a successful gallery. “It is truly a rare program,” wrote program coordinator Asha Ganpat in an email. The Horizon Foundation recently awarded the museum a grant to fund its Family Fun Day.
The Montclair Art Museum recently was awarded a grant that will fund one of its most popular programs. The art museum was awarded a $15,000 grant from the Horizon Foundation for New Jersey, a subsidiary of the health insurance provider Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield. Michele Shea, manager of institutional giving at the museum, said the funds will be used for the museum’s “cornerstone community program:” Free Family Day. This bi-annual event is a favorite among museum-goers, said Shea.
