Bikes were stolen from a Forest Street apartment complex.
Multiple bikes were stolen from storage bins at a Forest Street apartment complex, according to police. At 3:27 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, police responded to reports of a burglary at the complex. The victim told police his basement storage bin had been broke into and that a thief, or thieves, had made off with his Trek-Hyrbid bicycle. According to a report, the half-mountain bike, half-road bike is red in color with black rims and black handle bars. Another tenant in the complex reported that her storage bin had also been broken into and that her hybrid bicycle with its black seat and black handlebars had also been stolen. Police are currently investigating the Wednesday, May 15 burglary of a James Street home in which jewelry and loose change were stolen while the home was empty. Police were called to the home at 8:16 p.m. after the apparent victim reported coming home to find several bedroom dresser drawers opened with clothing and other belongings strewn on the floor. Police said no notable signs of forced entry were found and that incident is believed to have taken place between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. that same day. Both burglaries reported May 1 to Montclair Police.
Tools were the target of two recent burglaries in the township, according to Montclair Police. A Milwaukee Circular Saw valued at $80 was reported missing from a home on Woodland Avenue on Wednesday, May 1. The homeowner told police someone broke the window pane of her front door near the lock to enter the house some time between 9:30 p.m. the previous night and around 6:57 a.m., when the burglary was reported. At 1:30 p.m. the same day, a local contractor reported about $1,250 worth of construction tools taken from a job site on Gates Avenue. A burglar got away with more than $20,000 worth of jewelry and electronics from a Montclair home Saturday, according to Montclair Police. A resident of South Fullerton Avenue told police someone broke into their home some time between 6:30 and 11:24 p.m. on May 4. The burglar allegedly forced open a rear door to enter the house, police said. The homeowner reported missing more than $12,000 worth of jewelry and an additional $8,300 worth of electronics. Residents reported rear yard doors and windows broken where burglars entered their homes, according to police.
Four burglaries were reported last weekend on Gates and North Mountain avenues and Llewellyn and Valley roads, according to Montclair Police. On April 4, a resident in the 100 block of Gates Avenue called police shortly after midnight to report hearing someone breaking into his basement. When officers arrived, they found a large hole that had been cut into the basement door and a second basement door with broken glass. Nothing was taken from the home, according to police. On April 5, a resident on Llewellyn Road told police around 10:30 a.m. he found a window and basement door broken. The resident was having renovations done. Montclair Police saw multiple incidents involving stolen packages, as well as a stolen car and an attempted burglary on Elmwood Avenue last week.
Montclair Police reported two thefts of delivered postal packages, a stolen vehicle parked outside a convenience store and an attempted burglary on Elmwood Avenue last week. A man was arrested on March 27 after 5:45 p.m. for stealing a delivered postal package placed in front of a door of a home in the 60 block of South Fullerton Avenue, according to police reports. The homeowner told police he had heard the storm door open and when he went to check, he saw a man walking down the driveway carrying a blue bag, police reports state. The homeowner reportedly told police he was aware a package had recently been delivered to his front door. A white man, about 5-foot 10-inches tall with no facial hair is being sought by authorities in an early morning robbery last month.
Montclair Police released surveillance footage of a man robbing a local convenience store last month. A white man in his 20s walked into the 7-Eleven, at 15 Bloomfield Ave., on Feb. 16 around 6:30 a.m., according to police. The man, who was wearing a black trench coat and had his face covered with sunglasses, browsed around the store but did not pick up anything. The man then approached the cashier and requested about $120 worth of scratch-off lottery tickets. When the clerk asked for payment, the man raised his shirt to expose what is believed to be the butt of a large knife, according to police. The clerk told police the man with the knife said something about not needing to pay and then left the store with the lottery tickets. The …

Burglars target laptop computers and jewelry.
Three separate apartments in a building on Valley Road were burglarized last week, according to Montclair Police. A female resident arrived at her apartment on March 12 at about 4 p.m. to find her front door pried open and four-bedroom apartment ransacked. She told police someone had broken in between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. that day. The woman told police there was more than $5,000 worth of jewelry missing, including three wedding bands, earrings, necklaces and rings. She also told police a Dell laptop was stolen. Police also found two additional apartments ransacked, with pry marks on their doors. Montclair Police found the front door of the business left wide open on Sunday morning.
A hair salon on Fullerton Avenue was burglarized this past weekend, according to Montclair Police. Vinney's Barber & Hair Syle, located at 55 N. Fullerton Ave., was found with its front door open on Sunday morning at around 9:23 a.m. Police officers found the cash register open when they inspected the business. The owner of the barbershop told police there was $62 missing from the rigister, which also was damaged. Verizon store on South Park Street had dozens of smart phones stolen.
A major telecommunications company with a store in Montclair was burglarized and dozens of cellular smart phones worth tens of thousands of dollars were taken last weekend, according to police. The burglar alarm sounded at the Verizon store, at 46 S. Park St., at around 12:30 a.m. on March 9. When Montcliar Police arrived, it was discovered someone had smashed in the front glass door to enter the store, according to police. Police officers found no one inside when they arrived. A metal cabinet in the rear of the office was found pried open. Missing from the cabinet were approximately 50 to 60 cellular smart phones, valued between $60,000 to $70,000.
