A 4th Ward commuinty meeting will be held Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Montclair Fire Department Headquarters, at 1 Pine St. Fourth Ward Councilor Renee Baskerville invites community and business member to discuss the east gateway and South End Village revitalization effort. The meeting is open to the public. This will be the second South End Business Improvement District meeting. It will focus on working with the community toward finding creative and innovative ways to revitalize the area. Artists and other creative-minded residents are encouraged to join the team effort to promote the arts as a driving revitalization force in Montclair's South End.

Fifteen restaurants in Montclair were cited for health code violations last year by local inspectors, according to township records. A man wearing a mask flashed a handgun and robbed a Montclair bank on April 22 before escaping with an undisclosed amount of money, according to police. The house that was once called home by two Russian spies and their two young daughters is now on the housing market. The Board of Education had to defend a survey given to students this month that cost the district $95,000. Students in grades three through 12 began taking the Tripod Student Survey in early April which Superintendent Penny MacCormack said is the “best student survey out there." Church Street was turned into a concert venue this weekend as bands took the stage to launch the start of a month of events in Montclair's downtown. Hundreds came out to Church Street Saturday to enjoy the sunny spring weather and the start of Montclair Center Business Improvement District's music and art series Montclair Center Stage. Montclair's favorite cameraman Wayne Robbins was also there to capture the event live. A news outlet is reporting Rutherford officials are contemplating offering liquor licenses citywide during the Super Bowl in February 2014. Would this work in Montclair?

Get an up close view of a recent Spring Art Show in the latest installement of Wayne Robbins' "Inside Montclair." Robbins is kicking off spring in Montclair and pointing his camera at local art work that is being displayed this month at the law firm Ashenfelter, Slous, McDonough & Trevenen LLP, located at 363 Bloomfield Ave. Robbins was able to chat with artist Fran Liscio about her photographs of intricate floral displays. The Planning Board heard an earful Wednesday about how the Master Plan will affect affordable housing, Montclair's historical areas and more.
Montclair wants to direct its future population growth into multistory buildings around its train stations during the next three decades, but residents questioned the impact of this vision and its effect on the historical character of the township. The final stages of a two-year process to complete an element of the township’s 30 year Master Plan, the Unified Land Use and Circulation Element, began Wednesday at a Planning Board meeting, who will ultimately vote on the final draft in the coming weeks. The 30-year vision includes recommending seven- to 10-story mixed-use buildings along Bloomfield Avenue, and two- and five-story buildings around Upper Montclair, Walnut and Watchung train stations in order to accommodate an estimated …

The sundry flavors of the township’s plentiful restaurant scene were on display at the Rotary Club’s Taste of Montclair on Monday night. The gastronomical fete featured more than 30 restaurants and food vendors, who laid out bite-sized portions of their signature dishes in University Hall of Montclair State University. As Roberta Claps, of Glen Ridge, passed by French, Italian, Greek, Japanese and Ethiopian restaurants, she said she was her way back to Salugo Pizzeria for seconds of risotto arancini, miniature rice balls with mozzarella and pancetta. Charmed Beading Stuido is featured in the latest installment of "Inside Montclair." Wayne Robbins recently stopped by the beading studio, located at 377 Bloomfield Ave., to welcome the owners and take a look at the store. The business opened at the start of February. Owners Monick David, a resident of Montcliar for more than 20 years, and Kumaire Persaud are two moms who said they wanted to "create a space where we could have people come and spark and ignite their creativity." David and Persaud make a variety of different necklaces, bracelets and earrings for you to purchase, or you can create your own.

Montclair officials have released their vision of what direction development should take during the next three decades. The draft of the Land Use and Circulation Element of Montclair's Master Plan is now available. The 179-page draft can be found by clicking here.
