Montclair Council Conference Held Tuesday

The township manager will preview legislation governing community gardens in town, among other things.

The Montclair Township Council will meet Tuesday for a council conference at 7 p.m. in the municipal building, at 205 Claremont Ave.   Township Manager Marc Dashield will preview upcoming agenda items such as an amendment governing community gardens in Montclair. The Montclair Planning Board drafted the legislation that will govern community gardens, chicken coops and apiaries. The recommendations will go before the council for a vote during a future meeting.  The township manager will also discuss measures to amend the Montclair Center Gateway redevelopment plan, and those designating 110 Orange Road 30 North Mountain Avenue historical sites.  The full council conference agenda can be found in the photo gallery of this article.  At the …

Montclair Council Meets Tuesday

An ordinance to place a four-way stop at the intersection of Chestnut and Forest avenues will be considered tonight.

  The Montclair Township Council will meet tonight in the municipal building, at 205 Claremont Ave., starting at 7 p.m.  The format for the meeting will be slightly different than in 2012.  The pre-meeting conference will now be held in the first floor council chambers. It was previously held in the second floor conference room. More Headaches From the Montclair Parking Authority

Parking Authority Treasurer Dale Jacobs unexpectedly quit Monday, delaying the commission from acting due to a lack of a quorum. The Montclair Council appointed three new members on Tuesday.

  The Montclair Parking Authority will come to an end this month, and this week it proved that it cannot even competently manage its own dissolution.   With only four members remaining in the parking authority commission after a series of resignations earlier this year, treasurer Dale Jacobs decided to resign unexpectedly on Monday. The commission was thus unable to operate or proceed with any financial billings and business because it did not have a quorum of four members. In a swift response, the Montclair Council appointed three new members to the commission at its Tuesday night conference to make a quorum. I am a seasoned professional, have been a commuter for twelve years, have a physical disability, and believe that someone who actually uses the town's parking facilities on a daily basis should be included in the advisory and policy_making council.   more ›

Voter Registration Deadline, BOE and Council Meetings, and Compost Give-Back This Week

• The Garden Club of Montclair will meet at 1 p.m. in The United Way Building, at 60 South Fullerton Ave. This month the discussion will be The Artistic Elements of Landscape and Garden Design. The guest speaker will be Chuck Baum.  The discussion will be $5 for nonmembers. For more information, call (973) 704-1515.  • The Northern New Jersey Chapter of the Victorian Society in America will present European Diplomacy During the Victorian Era at 8 p.m. in the Montclair Women's Club, at 82 Union St. The guest speaker will be Domenic Maffei, a Caldwell College professor, who will talk about the nature of diplomacy during the Victorian Era.  Refreshments will be served.
