Montclair will host a proscription drug buyback this weekend. The Montclair Police Department will take part in the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Montclair Police Department headquarters, located at 647 Bloomfield Ave. The service is free and anonymous, and no questions will be asked. The prescription drug buyback is for people to dispose of unwanted and unused prescription drugs. In the five previous drug buyback events, the DEA has worked in conjunction with state, local, and tribal law enforcement partners to remove more than 2 million pounds (1,018 tons) of prescription medications from circulation.

No charges filed against driver, investigation continuing

A Pearl River, N.Y., man was struck and killed by a car Tuesday night after leaving a New Jersey Devils hockey game at the Prudential Center, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement. Thomas Argenti, 18, was hit by car at around 10:30 pm near East Kinney Street and McCarter Highway. He was pronounced dead about a half-hour later. The 28-year-old driver, whose name was not released, remained at the scene, officials also said. No charges had been filed as of Wednesday afternoon and the investigation is continuing.

Felicia Williams, 37, is charged with aggravated manslaughter for the death of Herbet Warrenton Spriggs, 46, of Montclair.
A Claremont Avenue resident has died from injuries sustained in a stabbing early Sunday morning at his home, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. Felicia Williams, 37, allegedly stabbed her boyfriend Herbet Warrenton Spriggs, 46, at around 1:30 a.m. Sunday in the home located at 285 Claremont Ave. The two were reportedly arguing when Williams allegedly stabbed Spriggs with a knife, according to the prosecutor’s office. Spriggs drove himself to Mountainside Hospital, but later died at approximately 4:10 a.m. Sunday, according to authorities.
