South Park Street Redesign Already Drawing Prospective Tenants?

Project started with a bang this week

  Anyone who has driven down Bloomfield Avenue this week has noticed that the redesign work on South Park Street has started—and with a bang. Indeed, the street has been torn up and police cars have been positioned at the intersection. The stated aim of the project, of course, is to boost economic development downtown. Already, officials say, it seems to be working. Luther Flurry said that in the six months he's been on the job as executive director of the Montclair Center Business Improvement District the two questions he's most often been asked by prospective tenants are: Is the South Park Street project really going forward and could a change in political winds stop the project? Finally: South Park Street Redesign Work Begins Today

The much-anticipated project should be completed by end of June 2012

  Montclair Township is breaking ground on South Park Street streetscape improvements this week, adding a new center median, wide pedestrian-friendly sidewalks, a midblock crosswalk and roadway resurfacing. The new South Park Street will also feature some creative applications of materials. The new median will be constructed of granite blocks, most often used for curbs. Colorful new sidewalks will be made of concrete, and brick and granite pavers will be set in various patterns to create visual interest. Total construction time will be three months.
