Public Ed. in New Jersey Must Be Fixed [Op-Ed]

Education is the silver bullet to so many societal ills, said Mark Alexander, seeking the Democratic nomination in the 34th District state Senate primary in June.

The following letter was written by Mark Alexander, of Montclair. He is a former senior adviser to President Barack Obama and current Democratic candidate for the New Jersey state Senate in the 34th District.  As a teacher with four children in the public schools, strengthening our schools to provide a quality education for all our children is important to me on a very personal level. In order for New Jersey to be competitive, we need strong public schools in all corners of our state. Education is the silver bullet to so many societal ills. My campaign for the New Jersey state Senate has attracted parents and educators who also share a commitment to our schools. Last week, Bishop Dr. Reginald T. Jackson endorsed my campaign stating: "As an…

What has Nia Gill done for total diverse population of Montclair? Has she represented ALL of its people or just a percentage? Her agenda speaks the answer to that. We need a representative who is for ALL the people!   more ›

Alexander Calls on Sen. Gill to Debate the Issues [Opinion]

Mark Alexander, challenging Nia Gill (34-Essex) for her state Senate seat, calls on her join him in a series of debates across Clifton, East Orange, Montclair and Orange.

The following letter was written by Mark Alexander, of Montclair. He is a former senior adviser to President Barack Obama and current candidate for the New Jersey State Senate in the 34th District.  I always believed in the power of normal people to make positive change through the political process. I know that our government can be a powerful force to help the most vulnerable among us, to lift up our children with quality educations, and to provide an engine that can create jobs and drive our economy. When I launched my campaign last July, I wanted to empower people, just as we did when I helped build the Obama campaign. From the ground up, one person at a time, one door at a time, one vote at a time. My campaign is about the working …

Montclair's Mark Alexander Seeks NJ Senate Seat

Alexander will face off against incumbent Nia Gill (D-Montclair) in the Democratic primary.

A Montclair resident will challenge a longtime Democratic incumbent for her New Jersey Senate seat this year.  Mark Alexander will go head to head against Nia Gill (D-Montclair) in June’s Democratic primary for the state’s 34th District Senate seat. Alexander, a Seton Hall University law professor, said he will be looking to inject a new and independent voice on property taxes, transportation and equality issues -- such as same-sex marriage.   “You can’t ask the same people to fix the problem when they haven’t done it year after year,” said Alexander. “The entrenched incumbency is not moving things forward.”  Alexander moved to Montclair in 1995 when he began teaching law at Seton Hall University. His four of his five children currently …

I'm not happy with Gill, and Alexander doesn't make me feel any better. Both are tax and spend big government liberals who only add to the problems we face in NJ. Alexander's quote towards the end of the article, regarding school teachers. shows he's well versed on Democrat talking points. The Governor's "chastising and demonizing" is towards the teachers union, not teachers.   more ›
