Authorities recovered a gun at the scene and say there is no threat to the community after man and woman were found dead late Thursday.
[Updated at 11:48 a.m. on Friday, May 17] The death of a man and woman whose bodies were discovered late Thursday in a Montclair park is being treated as an isolated incident, and authorities say they have the gun believed used in the killings. Police responded to Canterbury Park after gunshots were reported around 10 p.m. Brandon Brown, 26, of Montclair, and Shanae Q. Howard, 24, of Orange, were found dead near a bench in front of a playground, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office. The two were pronounced dead at 10:40 p.m. Police have not detailed the circumstances or manner of their deaths, but said the two had a "dating relationship." Newark man wanted in connection with early morning shooting death of Belleville man.
Law Enforcement officials believe a Newark man was responsible for Saturday morning's fatal shooting of a Belleville man in Bloomfield. Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Bloomfield Police Chief Christopher Goul announced today that arrest warrants have been issued for Marcelus Tonic, 25. Tonic is wanted for the murder of 24-year-old Ron E. Jean of Belleville. Jean was fatally shot on April 27 at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Beardsley Avenue in Bloomfield and was pronounced dead at 4:06 a.m. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force tips line at 1-877-847-7432.

A 38-year-old Montclair woman was indicted Monday on charges she fatally stabbed her live-in boyfriend in January, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office. Felicia Williams was indicted on charges of aggravated manslaughter for the killing of 47-year-old Herbert Spriggs III, on Jan. 13 in the home they shared, at 285 Claremont Ave. The two were reportedly arguing around 1:30 a.m. that day when Williams allegedly stabbed Spriggs once with a knife, according to the prosecutor’s office. Spriggs then drove himself to Mountainside Hospital, but died later that morning from his wounds. Williams is being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility on $250,000 bail. Two Montclair men charged in the murder of a 21-year-old Villanova University student on Williams Street last year pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Newark Superior Court. Ernest Williams, 21, and James Pitts, 22, were arraigned Tuesday by Judge Peter J. Vazquez in connection with the murder of Brian Schiavetti, 21, of Ridgefield, Conn., according to Essex County Prosecutor's Office spokeswoman Katherine Carter. Schiavetti was found shot multiple times in an apartment building on July 22, 2012 during a drug-related robbery. Williams was charged with murder, felony murder, robbery, and weapons and narcotics offenses. A Montclair man accused of shooting to death a Villanova University student in town last year was indicted by an Essex County grand jury on Friday, according to NJ.com. Ernest Williams, 21, is accused of killing Brian Schiavetti of Ridgefield, Conn., who was found shot multiple times in an apartment building on William Street just off Valley Road on July 22. James Pitts, 22, of Montclair, was also indicted, the report said. He is charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and conspiracy to violate narcotics laws. The murder happened during a drug-related robbery. Williams and Pitts will be arraigned April 2 in Newark Superior Court, according to the report. He is being held at the Essex County jail in lieu of $750,000 bail.

Authorities are asking the public’s help in locating two suspects wanted in two different Newark murders late last year. Tyquaah Mayse, 33, of Newark is wanted for the murder of Wesley L. Howard, 38, also of Newark. Howard was shot multiples times in the first floor hallway at 860 South 11th Street in Newark Dec. 24, 2012. Mayse has been charged with murder and weapons offenses. Dwayne Edwards, 35, of East Orange, is a suspect in the shooting death of Raymar Kadeem Lecky of West Orange. Lecky, 22, was shot at Sanford and Lanark avenues in Newark on Dec. 31, 2012.
