NJ Transit Heightens Security in Response to Explosions at Boston Marathon

Additional officers, both in uniform and dressed in plain clothes, will patrol the transit system, according to spokesperson.

NJ Transit is in a "heightened state of alert" in response to several explosions reported at the Boston Marathon this afternoon, according to NJ Transit spokesman John Durso Jr. “While there has been no specific threat made to our transit system at this time, NJ Transit police have deployed both uniformed and plain clothed officers to further patrol our system and keep our customers safe," Durso said in a press release.  At least two people were killed and numerous people were injured in Boston this afternoon when there were  two explosions within a mile of the Boston Marathon's finish line, according to Back Bay Patch. Another explosion was reported at the John F. Report: NJ Transit Customer Satisfaction at All-Time High

Nearly 4 out of 5 post-Sandy survey respondents now say they would recommend transportation agency to friend, relative.

A new customer satisfaction survey of New Jersey Transit customer’s post-Superstorm Sandy has overwhelmingly endorsed the job the agency has been doing, according to an announcement by the Christie administration and the agency Tuesday. In the online survey conducted Feb. 4 through February 25, or during the third quarter of the agency’s fiscal year, nearly four in five customers, or nearly 14,000 participants on the agency's website (njtransit.com) said they would recommend NJ Transit to a friend or relative. The results mark a new high for the statewide public transit agency. The survey asked bus, rail, light rail and Access Link customers to rate the agency on a scale of 0 to 10 and asked riders to also consider 41 attributes of the …

Why bother complaining? The fix is in, as it is in every area of this state. It doesn't matter who you vote for. Christie was 100 percent behind the fare hikes. NJ Transit, DeCamp Cross-Honoring Tickets Monday

The National Weather Service issued an alert on its website to anticipate a wintry mix of snow and rain during the afternoon.

In anticipation of snow and rain on Monday, DeCamp Bus Lines and NJ Transit will be cross-honoring tickets.  DeCamp Bus Lines will be cross-honoring NJ Transit bus and rail tickets through throughout Monday. The bus line posted on its website to anticipate delays.  NJ Transit will allow customers to use tickets or passes for an alternate travel mode — rail, bus or light rail, as well as private carrier buses — throughout Monday.   All customers should check njtransit.com before traveling for up-to-the-minute service information before starting their trip. Montclair-Boonton Line Extended as Electric Trains Return to Hoboken

A key power substation has been repaired and two trains will be added to the Montclair-Boonton Line.

As of Sunday March 24, electric-powered trains will run to and from the Hoboken Terminal again, New Jersey Transit announced on Tuesday.  The restoration of service will add two additional trains to the local Montclair-Boonton Line.  It's for the first time since Hurricane Sandy that the electric trains resume service. After that day, the agency will be at 97 percent of its service, compared to pre-Sandy levels. In a statement, NJ Transit Executive Director James Weinstein said, “This marks significant progress in post-Sandy recovery." Weinstein added that as of March 24, there will be 21 additional trains added to the current schedules, "which will restore nearly all rush hour service to Hoboken and result in the long-awaited return of …

Little Falls Train Crash Injures 10, Knocks out Power

A NJ Transit train collided with a tractor-trailer in Little Falls Wednesday morning and injured 10 people, two of them seriously.

[UPDATED 4:15 p.m.] Updates to include revised information on power outage from PSE&G spokeswoman. A NJ Transit passenger train slammed into a tractor-trailer in Little Falls, Wednesday morning, injuring several people, backing up traffic on Pompton Avenue and cancelling trains along the Montclair-Boonton line. PSE&G crews were originally supposed to disable power in Little Falls around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to work on damaged power lines, but were unable to do so until the damaged tractor-trailer was removed, PSE&G spokesperson Kristine Snodgrass told Patch at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Hoboken Terminal Waiting Room To Reopen

The waiting room is scheduled to reopen on Jan. 29.

  The Waiting Room at the Hoboken Terminal will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 29, announced New Jersey Transit on Friday.  Construction crews power washed the walls, replaced heaters and heater motors, electrical panels, outlets and wiring, and the floors were stripped and sealed. Remaining work includes cleaning, refinishing and resetting benches and other affected woodwork, to be performed in the near future, NJ Transit announced.  The waiting room sustained extenstive damage during Sandy and has been closed since the storm.  The Waiting Room was closed on December 19. NJ Transit Cross-Honoring Tickets During Storm

Cross-honoring in effect through Thursday.

As the area braces for a potential three-to-five inches of tardy snow (not quite a White Christmas, but close, right?), NJ Transit announced that it would be cross-honoring of tickets starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Cross-honoring will remain in effect until the end of the service day Thursday, Dec. 27, enabling customers to use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode—rail, bus or light rail. For example, customers who normally take the bus from Rutherford to the Port Authority Bus Terminal may use their bus pass on the train from Rutherford to New York Penn Station. There shouldn't be a difference between having a bus ticket or a rail ticket, it's all going to the same pocket- NJ Transit. PATH Service To Midtown Manhattan Suspended For Next Two Weekends

The Port Authority says it will speed up repairs to the Hoboken PATH station.

  The Port Authority will suspended PATH service to midtown Manhattan for the next two weekends, according to a news release from the city of Hoboken. PATH service between Newark and 33rd street will stop running after 10 p.m. on Friday and will resume at 5 a.m. on Monday. The Newark to World Trade Center line will continue to run between New Jersey and New York from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 8 and 9, and next Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 15 and 16. PATH's Acting Director Stephen Kingsberry said it's a temporary inconvenience that will speed up restoration of full, 24-hour PATH service across the system. The Porth Authority has been shutting down PATH service to 33rd Street between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. each day. …
