Parking Rules in Case of Snow

Don't get a ticket this week. Know when and where you can park your car on snow-covered streets.

If there is snowfall this week, be mindful of where you park in Montclair.  Parking on public streets is prohibited during a snow event as well as parking a vehicle so that it extends into the roadway when it snows. The regulation is in effect when any accumulation of snow completely covers the roadway and obstructs road markings. The parking rules remain in place until the entire block or roadway has been cleared of snow. This parking ordinance does not apply to long-term/overnight permit parking locations. There are some exceptions to the new snow parking ordinance, such as for vehicles which display valid handicapped placards or have handicapped license plates and are otherwise legally parked. Hourly limits and meter fees at the …

More Headaches From the Montclair Parking Authority

Parking Authority Treasurer Dale Jacobs unexpectedly quit Monday, delaying the commission from acting due to a lack of a quorum. The Montclair Council appointed three new members on Tuesday.

The Montclair Parking Authority will come to an end this month, and this week it proved that it cannot even competently manage its own dissolution.   With only four members remaining in the parking authority commission after a series of resignations earlier this year, treasurer Dale Jacobs decided to resign unexpectedly on Monday. The commission was thus unable to operate or proceed with any financial billings and business because it did not have a quorum of four members. In a swift response, the Montclair Council appointed three new members to the commission at its Tuesday night conference to make a quorum. The commissioners appointed were: Mayor Robert Jackson made what he called an “editorial comment” about the dissolution of the …

How does a Montclair resident of 38 years get to be considered for a spot in the new Parking Utility? I am a seasoned professional, have been a commuter for twelve years, have a physical disability, and believe that someone who actually uses the town's parking facilities on a daily basis should be included in the advisory and policy_making council.   more ›

Thousands of Dollars in Utility Bills Missing From Montclair Parking Authority

Report of 10 years of practices at the taxpayer-funded authority shows mismanagement, missing financial records and utility bills.

The Montclair Parking Authority may have $100,000 in missing uiltity bills, according to a report released this week. A study of 10 years of records of the Montclair Parking Authority showed an agency in disarray – suffering from a lack of order in everything from its rules and regulations to its finances. But the most startling information in the report, done by former township business administrator Joseph Hartnett and township auditors, raises concerns over possibly $100,000 in missing utility bills. “The report speaks for itself,” said Mayor Robert Jackson. “It is not the best news I have ever read ... and it is a little disquieting, I would say. It bears some attention from the commissioners.” The report, released Tuesday, analyzed …

Patch -- I may just be tired at the end of the week, but what does "missing utility bills" mean. Missing = an unpaid/delinquent bills totally $100k? Or bills that were paid but entered into the accounting system in a misleading way? Why does the report use the qualifier "possibly"? Is there a potential discrepancy in how the charges were booked or has the PA just not paid PSE&G in some time? …   more ›
