Police: Con Artists Dupe Couple Out of Wedding Bands, Jewelry

A man and female purported to be representatives of a roof company.

  An Upper Montclair married couple was conned out of their wedding bands, thousands of dollars of jewelry and more by two people claiming to be roof repairmen, according to Montclair Police.  The husband and wife were in their home on Upper Montclair Avenue on Feb. 13 when a man and woman knocked on their door at 1 p.m. who purported to represent the company that installed the roof on their home a decade ago, according to police.  The repairmen claimed to be father and daughter and represent Matheson Construction out of Little Falls. They also referred to the male homeowner by name, according to reports.  The man told the homeowners that they were driving by and noticed some roof shingles that were peeled back. Learning the Laws About Driving Near School Buses

As September looms, police review the rules

  Just in time for the new school year, area police remind drivers of the laws about school buses.  1) It is very important to pay attention and follow all traffic rules when driving around school buses. All school buses have flashing lights and a stop arm to alert you when to stop. 2) Yellow lights will begin to flash to warn drivers that a bus is approaching a stop. This is your signal to slow down and prepare to stop. 3) If you are approaching a school bus from either direction with flashing red lights, you must stop at least 25 feet away from the bus. If you are driving on the opposite side of the road with a median in the middle, you must then slow down to 10 mph. 4) Do not pass a bus in either direction when its stop arm is extended…

Flashing red lights means stop. #4...Stop, when the flashing red light is on. Once off, you can proceed. Good subject. Parents who park around these schools is horrendous! Stop blocking the streets! Another note to parents. Before you decide to swing your door open....look first and make sure no passing vehicle is present! Common sense....do, let your kids out of your vehicle on the sidewalk side.   more ›
