Opinion: Montclair Mayor Should Stand with Coalition Against Guns
Resident Melina Macall writes a letter in response to the school shooting in Newtown, Conn., calling for Montclair to join Mayors Against Illegal Guns.
To the Editor, As a parent and citizen I am doing everything in my power to reduce the number of guns on the streets. I was deeply disappointed to note that Montclair Mayor Robert Jackson is not part of the coalition of Mayors nationwide supporting effective gun laws. Mayors Against Illegal Guns is a bipartisan coalition of more than 725 mayors –representing 57 million Americans – who support common-sense gun laws. I ask you to join this coalition as a priority and to share this information with our town so that we citizens can come out behind you and speak up for stronger gun control. For every day that nothing changes, 34 people are murdered by gunshot. Melina Macall Montclair

Melina, have you received a reply? I sent a letter to the mayor via email on Tuesday. Haven't heard back. Would the editor at Patch be able to follow up on this with Mayor Jackson? To ask if he intends to join Mayors Against Illegal Guns? Thank you.   more ›
