School of Rock's Young Rockers Set to Honor Their Elders

Area music school presents weekend concerts that pay tribute to rock legends past and present and help Sandy relief.

Local youngsters will bring the rock while honoring their musical heroes in three School of Rock Montclair events being held this month. On Saturday and Sunday, students will present "Jersey Underground," a tribute to songs by diverse Garden State artists, including the Misfits, Dillinger Escape Plan, Kool & the Gang, the Gaslight Anthem, My Chemical Romance, the Lumineers, Blues Traveler, Whitney Houston, Sugarhill Gang, Overkill, Blondie and more. The performances take place Saturday from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Crossroads, 78 North Avenue, Garwood, and Sunday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Just Jake’s, 30 Park St., Montclair. Tickets are $10 and $5 for 17 and under.  All proceeds will benefit the Hurricane Sandy NJ Relief Fund. School of Rock …

Young Montclair Musicians To Hold Benefit Concert Sunday

Students from School of Rock Montclair will raise money for the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund at St. John's Episcopal Church this weekend.

A group of Montclair's youngest musicians will take the stage this weekend to fundraise for those affected by Hurricane Sandy.  School of Rock Montclair will present a fundraising concert at St. John’s Episcopal Church, located at 55 Montclair Ave., on Sunday starting at 6 p.m.  All proceeds will be donated to the official Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund. The minimum donation will be $5 per person.   Students representing the music school's six spring performance programs will perform four songs from their themed shows.  These shows will be presented in their entirety throughout the month of June at area venues. “This is the first midterm concert that we’ve ever done,” explained Shamera Sandoski, owner of School of Rock Montclair…

Montclair Students Jam in NYC School of Rock Competition

“Playing for a screaming crowd of 500 people with full sound, lights, and stage effects in one of New York’s premier performance venues — this was the real deal, and Montclair definitely came to play," said owner the school's owner Matt Sandoski.

Students from School of Rock Montclair were chosen as finalists in a performance competition at the Highline Ballroom in Manhattan on this past weekend. On March 3, 30 young musicians representing Montclair, who ranged in age from nine to 17, competed against bands from eight other School of Rock locations in New Jersey, Westchester, N.Y., and Long Island, N.Y. “The diversity of musical styles and performance talent that the Montclair musicians brought to the stage was dizzying,” said Matt Sandoski, owner of School of Rock Montclair.  “We covered a wide range of genres, songs, and energy that truly rocked the crowd and blew the judges away.” The Montclair students played the best songs that were featured in their winter performance season …

School of Rock Concerts Pay 'Tribute to Queen'

Benefit concerts for James Caldwell High School's Music & More Booster Club will feature young musicians from School of Rock Montclair.

  Musicians from the School of Rock Montclair will present a “Tribute to Queen” at James Caldwell High School’s Center for Performing Arts on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 26 and 27. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the high school’s Music & More Booster Club. “We’re thrilled that School of Rock Montclair will be putting on these concerts for Music & More,” Ron Goltsch, co-president of the booster club, stated in a release. “The audiences will enjoy incredible music and exciting shows, and the proceeds will be used to provide seniors with scholarships to help them further their music education after they graduate.” Queen was one of the most popular rocks bands in the world in the mid-1970s and were second only to The Beatles in their …

Concert to Benefit Food Pantry in Montclair

School of Rock band will put on a show at the Unitarian Church on Friday to raise funds for Toni's Kitchen.

  Halloween will be resurrected this Friday with a student benefit concert for charity.  The School of Rock has assembled its top young musicians to play the soundtrack from the 1975 cult movie "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the Unitarian Church of Montclair, 67 Church St. All of the proceeds will benefit Toni's Kitchen, a local food ministry located at St. Lucke's Church.  The concert is also a costume party. There will also be prizes for the best “Rocky Horror” costume provided by The Bellevue Theater and a free raffle for a $50 dining card to Ah Pizz.  The benefit concert was originally planned to take place on Halloween, said Phil Silverberg, School of Rock general manager, but it had to be canceled due …

Michael Jackson Tribute Benefits JCHS Music & More Booster Club

School of Rock Montclair performs two concerts this weekend.

Young musicians from the School of Rock Montclair will present a Tribute To Michael Jackson’s Dangerous Tour this weekend at James Caldwell High School.  All ticket sale proceeds will benefit the Music & More Booster Club’s scholarship program for graduating seniors. “We’re thrilled that School of Rock will be putting on these concerts for Music & More,” stated Ellen Kreil, Director of the Music & More Booster Club. “The audiences will enjoy incredible music and exciting shows, and we’ll be able to provide seniors with scholarships to help them further their music education after they graduate from JCHS.” The musicians will recreate Michael Jackson’s 1992 Dangerous World Tour, which was Jackson’s second international concert tour.
