Former Teacher Gets Parole After Admitting to Sex with Student

Former West Orange High School teacher, Erica DePalo, 33, of Montclair, was sentenced to a three-year suspended sentence of parole with no jail time Monday afternoon, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said.

The 33-year-old former West Orange High School teacher and Montclair resident who admitted to having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student was sentenced Monday and will serve no jail time, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said. Erica DePalo, a former Essex County Teacher of the Year, was sentenced on Monday in Newark Superior Court to a three-year suspended sentence of parole with no jail time. She will also forfeit of her teaching license and be on lifetime supervision under Megan's Law, a spokesperson for the prosecutor's office said. New State Formula Will Measure Student Growth

Montclair District Superintendent Penny MacCormack said student performance measured by Student Growth Percentiles will be released in the coming weeks.

The Montclair School District will soon release student performance data that is calculated using the state’s new methodology.  Student performance reports for the previous two years will be released within the coming weeks using the state-mandated system known as Student Growth Percentiles, said Superintendent Penny MacCormack on Monday.
