Yoga Breathing Techniques to Calm Your Mind and Spirit

Yoga instructor Melody Lima shares a few breathing practices or Pranayama that you can do at home.

This column was written by Melody Lima, a yoga instructor at the Montclair YMCA. Yoga is the perfect tool for destressing yourself. It all starts with the breath: Slow, long, easy breathing helps to calm the mind, lower the heart rate and allowing the yoga student to observe oneself. Next time you are looking to relax or need a moment to calm your mind and spirit, try one of these Yogic breathing practices or Pranayama. Deep Breathing Lie on your back, palms up, legs slightly separated and relaxed. Pack a Lunch With a Healthy Punch

This mom around town is planning back to school lunches and has some tips to share.

  In the spirit of the new year and resolutions galore, we're looking at interesting, healthy lunch box options. Add yours below: Peanut butter and jelly gets boring. Nutella has been a great backup especially paired with some strawberries, but that gets old too. Regardless, both options will be in my pantry for busy mornings but I need some more interesting solutions. Do you have any good lunch box ideas? As for the thermos problems - I bought mine at Target and they have worked great. the best way to ensure the food stays hot is to run hot water out of your tap (the hottest it can get) fill up the thermos, put the lid back on and let it sit for a while. then I heat soup on the stove top, not the microwave - it warms more evenly throughout.
