Montclair Township has an open position for an administrative assistant to the director of Montlcair Planning and Community Development Department. The administrative assistant will provide assistance to the director, in addition to managing the office. Responsibilities include processing Planning Board and Zoning Board of Adjustment applications, maintaining a monthly calendar to ensure deadlines for notices are addressed, preparing and mailing packets to board and commission members, providing welcome letters to new members, maintaining meeting schedules, publishing notice of decisions, maintaining application files, maintaining financial accounts, processing invoices and keeping track of vacation/sick/personal time for all department …

The Montclair Council will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the municipal building, at 205 Claremont Ave. The council will vote on spending $174,567 for improvement to Glenridge Avenue from Pine Street to Bay Street, and a $2,900.000 bonding ordinance for various improvements to school buildings and grounds, among other things. Fundraiser to aid Independence Day event will feature beefsteak dinner on Friday, April 19.

A community-based organization is raising funds to preserve Montclair's 4th of July celebration. Montclair Celebrates will hold a Beefsteak Dinner fundraiser on Friday, April 19, at 7 p.m. at the Commonwealth Club, located at 26 Northview Ave. The event will be catered by the Brownstone and the meal includes cold anitpasto, pasta, beefsteak, french fries, dessert, beer, wine and soda. Tickets will be $60. They can be purchased in the Montclair Recreation Department office in the municipal building, located at 205 Claremont Ave., or through PayPal at Montclaircelebrates@gmail.com. Imagine driving into Montclair and passing by 10-story buildings on Bloomfield Avenue, or walking past five-story buildings overlooking the Upper Montclair train station and Watchung Plaza. While these monoliths may be a foreign sight in Montclair in the present, they may become a reality within the next 30 years as the township determines how best to balance long-term growth with sustainability.
