A Look Behind Trader Joe's Label [Poll]

If you found that foods at Trader Joe's grocery stores were made by brand-name companies, would you reconsider shopping there?

"Big brands are willing to operate under Trader Joe's cloak of secrecy, under which the 'vendor shall not publicize its business relationship with TJ's in any manner,'" according to the Huffington Post report.  Many people are loyal to Trader Joe's, but does this change your perception of the company? And is it …

The various types of Sunland peanut butter products – sold under several brands by major food retailers, including Trader Joe's, Safeway and Whole Foods – had been part of a voluntary recall that began in September and later was expanded. The FDA action announced Monday is a mandatory order. The company's peanut butter products have been "linked to an outbreak of Salmonella Bredeney that has sickened 41 people in 20 states," the FDA said. The voluntary recall began after salmonella was detected …

Nut Butter Recall Expands, Now Involves Starbucks

Products linked to salmonella outbreak; includes Starbucks, Target, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods.

Local stores responded to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's expanded voluntary recall of nut butter products by removing all products possibly contaminated with salmonella from store shelves.  The Sunland Inc. recall has more than doubled to over 240 products over the last week, in response to a "fast-moving outbreak" of salmonella in 19 states. Recently adding Starbucks to the mix of locally affected businesses, Flying Food Group issued a voluntary recall of the Starbucks brand Protein Bistro Box with 'Enjoy By' dates of Aug. 10 to Oct. 6. South Orange Starbucks has a sign on its counter informing customers that it has removed all the bistro boxes from the coffee shop. The boxes contained a Justin's Nut Butter Honey Peanut Butter …

It's hard for me to feel sympathy for these corporations who caught back on safety to skim extra profit, although I do feel for the people who got sick from their products. Hopefully, they'll clean up their acts and learn from their mistake. www.firebrandcentral.com   more ›
