The Montclair Planning Board will hold its second public hearing on the Unified Land Use and Circulation Element of the Master Plan on Monday, at 7:30 p.m., in the Council Chambers at 205 Claremont Ave. Montclair Public Schools Superintendent Penny MacCormack will share what she has learned during her “90-day listening and learning tour” at a Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) meeting on Monday, from 7 to 9 p.m., at Hillside Elementary School. Board of Ed. Meets, Council to Vote on Community Gardens, Master Plan And More

Check out what's happening this week in Montclair.

The Montclair Board of Education will meet on Monday at 7:30 p.m in the George Inness Annex, at 141 Park St.  The full Board of Education agenda can be found in the photo gallery of this article.  The meeting comes less than a week after the Board of School Estimate unanimously approve the school budget put together by the Board of Education. The $114 million overall budget is 3.3-percent higher than the 2012-13 budget, and $97,509,698 will be raised from taxpayers.  The Montclair Planning Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Monday in the municipal building, at 205 Claremont Ave.  The board continued its discussion last month on drafting regulations for neighborhood chicken coops and apiaries, or beehives.  Among the recommendations discussed …

Council Conference, $111M School Budget Vote in Week Ahead

Superintendent Penny MacCormack to host community outreach event Wednesday night to help build district's strategic plan.

The video from the previous Montclair Council meeting, on March 12, can be watched above.   The Montclair Township Council will convene at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the first floor council chambers of the municipal building, at 205 Claremont Ave. At the council's last meeting on March 12, Montclair Township Manager Marc Dashield introduced the 2013 preliminary budget, which included a municipal tax levy increase of 2.4 percent this year, or $1.25 million.  The average home assessed at approximately $505,600 can expect to pay about $5,315 in municipal taxes, which is an increase of $94 from last year. The overall proposed budget is $77.8 million, which is up $2.25 million or 3 percent from 2012.  New business for the council includes …

Chris, You are mistaken. There is school budget tax increase. If you were around in 2011, the Schools took your tax overpayment and kept it. They are using the $3.2MM this year so you don't have to pay even more. However, don;t be under any illusion you are not paying 3% more in taxes than you paid last year...and the MPS increase is, so far, higher than municipal. I can not, for the life of me, …   more ›

President's Day Closings, Schools Off Through Wednesday

  Monday is President's Day. This is a federal holiday, so United States Post offices, banks and all government offices will be closed.  Traditionally known as Washington's Birthday, this federal holiday is celebrated the third Monday of February. It was enacted in 1879 by Congress for government offices in Washington, D.C., and expanded later in 1885 to include all federal offices.  The Montclair School District will also be closed Monday and Tuesday for President's Day, and Wednesday for a teacher's workshop. The district had held Wednesday, Feb. 20 in abeyance in the event there was a need for a second snow make-up day. The first snow make-up day for students was Friday, March 29, Good Friday.
