POLL: Are Bikinis Too Skimpy for the Boardwalk?
A former Asbury Park councilwoman wants an old ordinance enforced on the boardwalk. Is she right?
Next time you go to the beach in Asbury Park, you may need to cover up before you enter the boardwalk. Last week, Louise Murray, a former Asbury Park councilwomen and the current chairperson of the city’s Republican Party, spoke during the town’s council meeting to raise the issue of a long forgotten ordinance still on the books. The ordinance, enacted in 1958, states that “no person clad in bathing attire shall be on the boardwalk or the public walks adjacent thereto.” “I’ll be darned if I want to be standing at a bar and have somebody slither up in a Speedo or bikini that shouldn’t be in a bathing suit,” Murray said, according to the Asbury Park Sun. “It’s disgraceful … I implore you to enforce this, but do not amend it.” The ordinance…
