Bias Incident on MSU Campus Aimed at African-American Women

Incident comes on the heels of three threats directed at the gay community.

 

The Montclair State University Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into a bias incident that apparently occurred the evening of Feb. 7 at The Heights residence complex.

According to a statement from MSU, "these actions are considered grossly unacceptable and a violation of University policies. Any individual(s) found responsible for such actions will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

According to the Montclair Times, graffiti was scrawled on the door and wall of a student residence at The Heights complex and was targeted toward African-American women. The message was discovered by students, who reported it to officials.

MSU officials say the institution has a “no tolerance policy” for bias intimidation on campus and that it is committed to providing a working and learning environment that is inclusive, free of discrimination, bullying or harassment, and is welcoming to persons from all racial, ethnic, social and cultural backgrounds.

The incident comes on the heels of three other bias threats that were directed at the lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender community. Indeed, during the last week fo January, the words "Die Fags" and "Fags will die on 2/7" were written on the walls at MSU's Student Center. A note found at the site contained the message "you will die soon Faggots."
