Comfort Food Kitchen Opens In Watchung Plaza

The business launches an online subscription dinner service.

It's the perfect location—right by  Comfort Food Kitchen has opened at 54 Fairfield Street, the spot formerly occupied by which moved to 620 Valley Road in Upper Montclair.

So what is Comfort Food Kitchen? Suzanne Michaud, the chef and founder, explained that it's a business that began with a simple line of old fashioned cookies made from heirloom recipes.

"So many people were telling me, 'you should open a shop, your food is so delicious'," she said. "So I decided to open my first gourmet takeaway shop. We will offer artisanal soups, salads, and sandwiches daily, plus fresh takeaway dinners for busy commuters and families.

"I will, of course, continue to offer my famous cookies, cooking lessons, and other scrumptious treats," she said. "We make everything from scratch using only the highest-quality products and, where possible, organic, locally sourced ingredients."

Since quietly opening on July 20, the response has been fantastic, Michaud said.

"Last week we just launched the beta of our online subscription dinner service," she said. "We think this is going to be a great service for busy commuters and families.

"Our service allows you to purchase meals in advance to help you organize your week," Michaud added. "You can pick your day, meal, and pickup time online and then just drop in and pick up your food."

Michaud said that she will introduce cooking classes in the fall.

"We are designing classes for beginner, intermediate, and advanced home cooks," she said. "We will even have classes geared for teens. The schedule should be available in the next week or so."
