(Montclair, NJ – October

31, 2013) For the seventh consecutive year SMAPA will host a holiday

“Fun-Raiser” in support of its three scholarship funds:  The General Scholarship Fund supports

deserving children who would not otherwise be able to afford training through

partial tuition support; The Joyce Copeland Scholarship awards full tuition to

a gifted and talented young student between the ages of 10 and 12 for all of

their training for one year with a renewal option for the second year; the

Mildred Spain Scholarship in support of a student between the ages of 6 and 10

years old, and finally the Performance Workshop Ensemble (PWE) Scholarship Fund

which is merit based and supports up to 15 gifted and talented young dancers

between the ages of 12 and 18.  For the

past four years The Stone Foundation has graciously supported this group of

young people with a generous grant of $25,000.

The cost of training for each individual member of PWE is $3000 for the

entire academic year. In addition, the Foundation has made it possible to

provide free ballet classes to young men between the ages of 7 and 15 each

Saturday for the entire academic year.  Last

year the Junior Performance Workshop Ensemble (JPWE) was created to give

younger aspiring dancers access into PWE. This apprentice program is free of

charge.  We rely upon the support of our

families and friends to keep these scholarship programs going.

Our “Fun-Raiser”

not only gives attendees an opportunity to support our scholarship funds, but

also gives everyone a chance to join in the fun by participating in free demo

classes, bidding in our silent auction, or our raffle, but more importantly,

attendees get to see the gifted and talented young people of PWE, and for the

first time, JPWE perform throughout the evening.
