Why is MTCSchoolsWatch trying to capture the personal information of visitors to their blog?
I’ve just learned that the MTCSchoolsWatch blog is doing more than putting up posts that share…
- personal details about district employees
- conspiracy theories
- connect-the-dots conjecture about the motives of parent and community critics of our BOE and superintendent
They’re also trying to gain access to the personal IP addresses of web users who visit their blog:

This attempt to unearth the computer information and locations of their visitors is reminiscent of the BOE’s attempt to discover the identities of their critics via the serving of legally invalid and unconstitutional subpoenas (according to Essex County Superior Court Judge Thomas R. Vena) that were meant to intimidate and harass.
(Full disclosure: I was a recipient of one of those subpoenas: https://www.aclu-nj.org/files/1413/8618/9802/MBOE-146_Subpoena_upon_Google.pdf)

Questions:
- If they’re able to gather personal information about their users, how is MTCSchoolsWatch planning to use it?
- Would they pass this personal information to the BOE?
- Would the BOE’s attorney subpoena ISPs in order to discover the IP details of web users who are critics of the BOE/superintendent?
If community members are wondering why there’s such outrage and fury towards the BOE, superintendent, and their supporters, here’s the latest in a number of very good reasons.
